We will meet at 6:00, on Thursday, 14, at the Western Sizzlen Steak House in Lugoff, on Hwy 1. The Magnolia has changed hands and they now require a certain number of attendees to reserve a room. We have been meeting at the Magnolia for about three years. It has great atmosphere, but we decided to go back to the Steak House, where we sometimes met before, and where the salad bar even includes dessert.

I had to go by the Wade Hampton SCV meeting in Columbia before driving to Camden, so I was late, as usual. But I’ve only missed one meeting in nearly three years and being late is really not as bad as it could be. You see, after the meeting adjourns at nine o’clock, and the Magnolia kicks us out, we always take the party to Shoneys or McDonalds where we continue to discuss serious stuff till we get really tired.
One thing we discussed was that Mrs. Boyken has canceled the Boyken parade over fear of someone falling in the lake. Last year a woman and child walked across the narrow spillway before anyone knew they were there. This got her to thinking about what could happen with all those people about…and all those hungry lawyers.
We’ll have to come up with another event to enter.

CALIFORNIA: 1861
•July 8, 2007 • Leave a CommentGeneral Albert Johnson was a gentleman, a man of honor. If he, and other Southerners like him, had not done the morally right thing, as they so often did, rather than the most expedient thing, then the South would have lost its soul, even in winning. That is exactly what happened to the Union. By denying the southern states the exercise of their manifest right to reassert the sovereignty they had never did relinquish in creating and joining a federal union, the Union lost its nobility. From that point on it has been on an inevitable downward course towards what it is today, a tyrannical empire.
And yet, the mind inevitably turns, from time to time, toward “what ifs.”

From the June 24th Issue of US News and World Report:
‘When war broke out in 1861, there was a move to establish the ‘Pacific Republic’ with Oregon and join the Confederacy. The situation was tense: Albert Johnston, the general responsible for protecting California—just recently acquired from Mexico and vulnerable to raids from Indian tribes—was a Texan with a deep hatred for Lincoln.
But in a move that may have changed history, Johnston surprised the Pacific Republic conspirators. Upholding his officer’s oath of loyalty, he refused to join their plan. Instead, he handed over his command and headed to Texas, where he joined the Confederate Army. Johnston was killed at the Battle of Shiloh in 1862. Thousands of Californians followed his example, moved east, picked their side, and fought in dozens of battles. But many more stayed home—and kept a close eye on those gold fields.’”

•June 3, 2007 • 1 CommentIn January 2005, President Bush declared that it is now the policy of the United States to eradicate tyranny in the world, and that the survival of American liberty is dependent on the liberty of every other nation. Translation: “All you leaders out there, listen up: I control the greatest killing machine of all time. I can take you out one at a time or all at once. When I say jump, you say, ‘How high!’”
Those are the words of a man out of control, drunk with power, a Mussolini, strutting and posing, dictating terms to the entire world! He has done remarkable damage to the empire. He has weakened it, perhaps fatally.
For our Land, South Carolina, the future is beautiful. As the empire slowly slides into the dustbin of history, we will be free…free at last!
